REVIEW: Zack Snyder's Justice League Is The Definitive Version

Pop Culture Weekly Review: Zack Snyder's Justice League is the definitive version of the film and the one that should have been released the first time.

By now you know the story of the infamous Snyder cut of Warner Brothers Justice League. Fans had been demanding Zack Snyder's version of the movie since the original opened to horrible reviews and an even more horrendous box office. After Warner announced Snyder would finally get his chance to finish his version, fans have been counting down the days to its release. After all of this time, that day is upon us.

Streaming exclusively on HBO Max, Zack Snyder's Justice League is a beautiful, dark tale of Gods on Earth that must come together to save humanity. The heart of this story is Cyborg, incredibly played by Ray Fisher, who was demoted to a simple afterthought in the theatrical version of Justice League. In Zack Snyder's Justice League, Cyborg is the driving force of both the team and the story, giving viewers a relatable tragic character who you instantly want to root for. This change alone drastically gives viewers a completely different experience over the theatrical version.

Longer cuts, more fleshed out characters and totally new scenes are part of what you get in Zack Snyder's Justice League. While the four hour run time may seem daunting to some, it is necessary to tell the story Snyder aimed to tell, particularly within the lens of the journey of the Snyder cut itself. Broken up into chapters, the run time zooms by as we go through the film with epic, action packed scenes transitioning to quiet character moments. You won't realize or mind the running time.

Darker, grittier and more violent, the Snyder cut doesn't shy away from violence or blood if it pushes the story forward. While the theatrical cut was PG-13, this version is appropriately rated R. Some fan boys and Karens may complain about this but it is necessary for the scope of the story Snyder is telling. They have the theatrical cut if they want the homogenized version where their pearls don't need to be clutched. The stakes seem so much higher in the Snyder cut and the characters necessarily respond as such.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is an epic, gorgeous vision that could have only been done by Zack Snyder. Not only does it continue the story he began in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it expands the DCEU in ways fans have been craving for years. Unfortunately, those seeds that the Snyder cut plants won't ever come to fruition in future movies, fans finally get this final chapter in the Snyderverse we've all loved so much.

Zack Snyder's Justice League streams exclusively on HBO Max beginning March 18th.
