McDonald’s plans to “drastically” reduce the plastic in its Happy Meals by getting rid of plastic toys worldwide by 2025. The fast food chain says their new goal is to reduce the use of virgin plastic by 90%. This will make a big impact considering they put more than 1 billion toys in the Happy Meals each year. The company is currently working with toy companies to develop new ideas, such as three-dimensional cardboard superheroes kids can build. McDonald's is also exploring using recycled plastic toys to make new restaurant trays. The change already started in the U.K. and Ireland where they only put soft toys or books in its Happy Meals.
